JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and Compliance Company looking for engineers to join our team in Stockport. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing individuals to work either part‑time or full‑time.

We require all applicants to have a reasonable commuting distance to Stockport, and to hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent. Applicants must be reliable, honest, and have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All equipment, including testing instruments and measuring devices, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.

This role offers potential earnings on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests, and job dynamics. Jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts, allowing negotiation of details to suit both parties.

A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer involves varying locations such as hospitals, retail outlets, and offices. You will pack all necessary tools and equipment—including testers, record books, and associated devices—into your van before heading to the first job.

At each site, you will conduct tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, computers, and other electrical items. You must use the appropriate test instruments to check whether items are safe for continued use or need to be repaired or replaced, and communicate the results and recommendations to users.

After completing tests, you will record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or an electronic system, and provide employers with a copy. Additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists may be required.

Throughout the day you will move continually from one location to another, either alone or as part of a team. Organization and efficiency are essential to ensure accurate completion of all tests.

Success in this role requires skill, experience, and patience; the rewards include contributing to workplace safety and opportunities for professional growth.
