A PAT engineer’s day varies from one location to another – hospitals, retail outlets, offices, etc. The day usually starts by packing all necessary tools and devices into the van, then travelling to the first site. On site the engineer tests every appliance – microwaves, kettles, computers – using appropriate test instruments, records findings, informs users of results and explains safety issues. The engineer records results in a PAT test report book or electronic system and provides copies to employers. Additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists may be required. Throughout the day engineers move between sites, sometimes alone and sometimes as part of a team. Accurate and efficient testing is always required. The role is physically and mentally demanding but rewarding, offering opportunities for experience, skill development and career advancement.
Requirements & Expectations: Applicants must have reliable transport to and from sites, maintain up‑to‑date testing equipment and meet regulatory requirements. A proven history of reliability, honesty, and a “can‑do” attitude is essential.
