JR PAT Testing is expanding across Yorkshire & Humber. We are looking for experienced PAT Engineers who are self‑employed and have their own insurance and calibrated equipment. All engineers receive a handbook, contract for services, branded clothing, labels, and technical support.

As a self‑employed PAT Engineer in Scarborough you will work flexible hours and use your own transport to deliver portable appliance testing services. Work ranges from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts, with pay on a pro‑rata basis based on the rate per appliance and the number of tests.

Typical Day

  • You will pack your van with testers, record books and other tools, travel to various sites (hospitals, retail outlets etc.) and test appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers.
  • After every job you record findings in a test report book or electronically, provide employers with a copy, and complete any required certificates or checklists.

Responsibilities

  • Perform PAT testing on electrical appliances, checking safety and compliance.
  • Inform users of results and explain if appliances are unfit for use.
  • Maintain and calibrate testing instruments and keep them in good working order.
  • Record findings accurately and efficiently, preparing test reports and completion certificates.
  • Travel to a variety of locations, often solo or as part of a team, organising work to meet client deadlines.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent.
  • Self‑employed with own insurance and calibrated equipment.
  • Reliable, honest, with a can‑do attitude.
  • Experience in PAT testing is desirable; proof of competence in line with City & Guilds standards.
  • Ability to travel within reasonable commuting distance of Scarborough; national travel acceptable.
