Job Responsibilities
As a PAT Engineer you will travel to a variety of sites – from hospitals to retail outlets – to test electrical appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers. You will use test instruments to verify appliances meet safety standards and will advise users on the results. You will record findings in a dedicated test report book or electronic system and provide employers with a copy of the report, completion certificates and checklists. Throughout the day you will move from one location to another, whether alone or as part of a team, ensuring that all tests are completed accurately and efficiently. You must maintain all equipment in good working order, keeping testing instruments, measuring devices and additional tools up to date and compliant with regulations.
Typical Day
Each day begins by packing tools and equipment into your van for the first job. On site you perform PAT testing, inform staff of findings, record results, and submit final reports. Between appointments you will stay organized, manage paperwork, and travel to the next location. The role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a “can‑do” attitude. If you have the right experience, reliable transport, and a city & guilds qualification, this role offers flexible part‑time or full‑time hours and the opportunity to earn based on the work completed.
