JR PAT Testing is rapidly expanding across the UK and we are looking for experienced Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) Engineers to join our team in Wanstead. The roles are self‑employed with flexible hours, supporting both part‑time and full‑time arrangements. Applicants must own their own equipment, hold adequate insurance, and keep all devices calibrated at least once per year. All pilots are required to have a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or an equivalent credential.
Responsibilities
- Travel to a variety of sites—including hospitals, retail outlets, and office buildings—performing safety tests on electrical appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers.
- Use specialised test instruments to verify that items are safe for continued use and/or identify faults requiring repair or replacement.
- Record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or an electronic system, providing employers with copies of results, completion certificates and mandatory checklists.
- Communicate test outcomes clearly to site users, explaining any required actions to remediate unsafe equipment.
- Maintain a reliable and organized approach, ensuring accurate, efficient testing and proper documentation.
Qualifications

- Education Level: City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent.
- Experience: Proven competence with C&G‑standard equipment.
- Location: Wanstead or a commutable area (national projects available).

Compensation
All payments are discussed at the time of booking each job. Compensation is pro‑rated and based on the number of appliances tested, the rate per appliance, and the nature of individual assignments, which range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts.
