JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and Compliance company currently looking for engineers to join our team in Paignton. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing interested individuals to work either part‑time or full‑time. This role offers potential earnings on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Our jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts, allowing us to discuss all details and determine what works best for you.
Applicants must have a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, reliable and honest, with a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments, measuring devices and additional tools, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.
A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer involves visiting a variety of locations and environments. A typical day starts with packing all necessary tools and equipment – including testers and record books – into the van before setting off to the first job. Once on site, you’ll test appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers that require PAT testing. This involves using various test instruments to check whether electrical items are safe for continued use or need to be repaired or replaced. You’ll also inform users of the results and explain why certain appliances may be unfit for use. After testing is complete, you’ll record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or into an electronic system and provide employers with a copy. You may also need to fill out additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists. You’ll be constantly on the move from one location to another – either alone or as part of a team – so staying organised and ensuring accurate, efficient completion of tests is essential.
Being part of JR is more than an income – you are made to feel part of a family. Your well‑being is a priority, and you are taken care of and supported when personal issues arise. You will be supported by genuinely friendly staff who will do their best to look after you, from the owner himself to your colleagues. All this is under the support of a 30‑year veteran of every electrical discipline, from PAT testing to electrical maintenance engineering. Overall, PAT testing is an exciting, physically and mentally demanding career that provides variety and opportunities for advancement. If you think you have what it takes to be a PAT tester, we encourage you to get in touch – we look forward to hearing from you!
