JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and we would love to speak with you if you are an experienced PAT Engineer with the equipment and insurance in place. We are looking for self‑employed PAT Engineers who are ready to work from Lewisham and surrounding commuter areas. Whether you are currently self‑employed or considering becoming self‑employed, we would like to hear from you. Our onboarding process starts with a friendly conversation. All our engineers must have their own insurance and keep their equipment calibrated at least once a year. In return, we supply an engineer handbook, a contract for services, branded clothing, labels and technical support.

Job Details:

  • Employment Type: Self‑employed
  • Education Level: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent
  • Experience: Proven competence in line with C&G standards
  • Location: Lewisham (commutable areas required; national travel possible)
  • Compensation: Discussed per job on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, number of tests and job dynamics

As a PAT Engineer you will pack your tools, travel by van to sites such as hospitals and retail outlets, and conduct PAT tests on appliances (e.g. microwaves, kettles, computers). You will record results, advise users on findings, complete completion certificates and checklists, and submit reports to employers. The role requires reliable, honest and organised working habits, a ‘can‑do’ attitude, and up‑to‑date testing instruments and other equipment that meet regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Transport necessary equipment and personal protective gear to job sites
  • Perform PAT testing on a range of electrical appliances
  • Record findings in test reports, either in paper form or electronically
  • Issue completion certificates and relevant paperwork to the client
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment annually, ensuring it meets regulatory standards
  • Travel between sites efficiently and manage time to meet client deadlines

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent
  • Valid insurance for self‑employment and equipment
  • Proven experience with PAT testing and knowledge of relevant regulations
  • Reliability, honesty and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to travel to a variety of sites as required
