The role is self‑employed, offers flexible hours, and can be part‑time or full‑time. All engineers must own their own insurance and keep their testing equipment calibrated at least once a year.
Responsibilities
- Conduct portable appliance testing (PAT) on a variety of sites, including hospitals, retail outlets, and other workplaces.
- Use test instruments to assess electrical safety of appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers.
- Inform users of results, explain findings, and recommend repairs or replacements when necessary.
- Record test findings accurately in a dedicated PAT test report book or through an electronic system.
