Our Opportunity JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and we are looking for experienced PAT Engineers with the proper equipment and insurance. Whether you are already self‑employed or are considering becoming self‑employed, we would love to hear from you. Our onboarding starts with a friendly conversation. All our engineers must have their own insurance and have their equipment calibrated at least once a year. In return, along with an engineer handbook, contract for services and branded clothing, we supply labelling and technical support.

Employment type: Self‑employed PAT Engineers from any background.

Education level: City & Guilds 2377 or equivalent.

Experience: Proven competence in line with C&G.

Job location: Colindale and commutable areas.

Commute: Reasonable commuting distance to Colindale or closer; engineers may travel as far as they wish nationwide.

Salary: Pro‑rated based on rate per appliance, number of tests and job dynamics; all compensation is discussed when booking a job.

Job Description: JR PAT Testing offers self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing you to work part‑time or full‑time. You will conduct portable appliance testing (PAT) at a range of sites, from hospitals to retail outlets. Your duties include:

  • Transporting and setting up testing equipment and record books.
  • Performing tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, computers, and other electrical items.
  • Determining whether appliances are safe for use or need repair or replacement.
  • Informing users of test results and explaining any issues.
  • Recording findings in a PAT test report book or electronic system.
  • Completing completion certificates, checklists and other required paperwork.
  • Ensuring all equipment is up‑to‑date, maintained and meets relevant regulations.

Requirements:

  • Valid transport or reliable means to travel to work.
  • City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent.
  • Reliable, honest and having a ‘can‑do’ attitude.
  • Own testing instruments, measuring devices, and additional tools kept in good working condition.

Typical Day: As a PAT engineer, no two days are the same. You will start each day by preparing your van with all necessary tools and record books. At each site you will test a range of appliances, record your findings, provide employers with certificates, and ensure all reports are accurate and timely.
