JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK, and we are looking for experienced PAT Engineers who have the equipment and insurance in place. If you are already self-employed or considering becoming self‑employed, we would like to hear from you. All our engineers are required to hold their own insurance and calibrate their equipment at least once a year. In return, along with our engineer handbook, contract for services and branded clothing, we provide labels and technical support.

Tasks include recording test results, advising users on appliance suitability, and completing necessary paperwork such as reports, completion certificates and checklists. Earnings are on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Projects range from one‑day assignments to longer contracts, allowing flexibility for both the engineer and the client.
Each day starts with packing tools and equipment into the van, then heading to the first job. On site, the engineer tests appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers, records findings, informs users, and completes any required paperwork. The work involves moving between sites, sometimes alone and sometimes as part of a team, requiring strong organisation and accurate testing. Success in this role requires skill, experience, patience, and a commitment to safety. It is both physically and mentally demanding but offers variety and opportunities for advancement.
