If you are already self‑employed or considering becoming self‑employed, we would like to hear from you. Our onboarding process starts with a friendly conversation. All our engineers have their own insurance and have their equipment calibrated at least once a year.

A typical day of a portable appliance testing (PAT) engineer involves working in a variety of locations and environments. A typical day starts with packing all necessary tools and equipment (testers, record books) into the van before heading to the first job. On site, you test appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers, using instruments to verify safety or need for repair. You inform users of results and explain why certain appliances may be unfit for use. After testing, you record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or electronic system and provide employers with a copy. You may also fill out additional paperwork such as completion certificates and checklists. Throughout the day, you’re continually on the move from one location to another – either alone or part of a team – so staying organised and ensuring accurate, efficient tests is vital.
