JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK. We are looking for an experienced Portable Appliance Tester (PAT Engineer) who owns their own equipment and insurance. All engineers work as self‑employed contractors with flexible hours (part‑time or full‑time). We provide a contract for services, an engineer handbook, branded clothing, labels, and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to a variety of sites (hospitals, retail outlets, offices) and conduct appliance testing using approved instruments.
  • Identify unsafe appliances, provide recommendations for repair, replacement or re‑testing.
  • Inform users of test results and explain safety requirements.
  • Record findings in a dedicated test report book or electronic system and issue completion certificates where required.
  • Maintain all testing equipment in good working order and comply with relevant regulations.
  • Remain organised, efficient and reliable across multiple job sites.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Employment type: Self‑employed contractor.
  • Education level: City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience: Proven competence in line with the City & Guilds standard.
  • Location: East Acton with reasonable commuting distance; willing to travel nationally.
  • Salary: Pro‑rated based on rate per appliance, number of tests and job dynamics; discussed when booking a job.
