JR PAT Testing is growing rapidly across the UK and is looking for experienced PAT Engineers to join us. We welcome both self‑employed professionals and those considering self‑employment. Our onboarding process involves a friendly conversation. All engineers must maintain their own insurance and have their equipment calibrated at least once a year.

We offer flexible, self‑employed positions that can be part‑time or full‑time. Responsible for conducting portable appliance testing at a variety of sites (hospitals, retail outlets, etc.). Required to transport and maintain testing equipment, keep detailed test reports, and provide clear communication of results to employers. Must hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable, honest, and have a “can‑do” attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments and measuring devices, must be kept up‑to‑date, in good working order, and meet relevant regulations.

A Typical Day of a PAT Engineer:

  • Begin by packing all tools and equipment into the van.
  • Travel to the first site, conduct PAT tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles and computers, and use appropriate test instruments.
  • Inform users of results and advise on repair or replacement where necessary.
  • Record findings in a dedicated PAT test report book or digital system and provide employers with copies.
  • File completion certificates and checklists as required.
  • Work involves frequent travel between locations, sometimes alone or with a team.
  • Organising the day and ensuring accurate, efficient testing is essential.

Success in this role demands skill, experience and patience. The job is physically and mentally demanding but offers variety and opportunities for advancement.
