We are recruiting an experienced and qualified HGV Technician / Fitter to join our team at our Borehamwood yard. Working Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 16:00, the successful candidate will be competent across all aspects of commercial vehicle maintenance and repair, including Periodic Maintenance Inspections (PMIs), MOT preparation, routine servicing, and complex fault finding. You will play a key role in ensuring our fleet operates safely, legally, and efficiently at all times. Mid-week overtime is available for those who wish to increase their earnings.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out Periodic Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) in line with DVSA guidelines and each vehicle's maintenance schedule.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT examination, ensuring all systems meet the required legal standards prior to presentation.
- Conduct safety inspections and identify defects, reporting findings accurately on inspection documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with Operators' Licence obligations, DVSA standards, and company quality procedures.
- Perform scheduled servicing on HGVs, trailers, and ancillary equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate service records, job cards, and vehicle history digitally on our system fleetcheck.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, air braking, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults across a variety of HGV makes and models.
- Utilise diagnostic equipment and software to identify fault codes and carry out root cause analysis.
- Carry out repairs to engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and braking systems.
- Fit and replace components to a high standard, ensuring vehicles are returned to service promptly and safely.
- Recognised HGV technician qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Technology, or equivalent).
- Demonstrable, hands-on experience as an HGV Technician or Fitter in a commercial vehicle workshop environment.
- Proven competency in carrying out PMIs, MOT preparation, servicing, and fault diagnosis on HGVs.
- Strong working knowledge of DVSA inspection standards and commercial vehicle compliance requirements.
- Experience with mechanical, electrical, air braking, and hydraulic systems on heavy vehicles.
- Full UK driving licence.
- IRTEC accreditation (Light or Heavy Vehicle) or willingness to work towards it.
- Experience across multiple HGV manufacturers (e.g., Volvo, DAF, Scania, Mercedes-Benz, MAN).
- Proficiency with diagnostic software such as TEXA, Autel, or manufacturer-specific systems like Scania/Volvo.
