ROLE OVERVIEW
We’re seeking a skilled Civil Engineer / Setting-Out Engineer to join our site team. You’ll work on concrete pours, drainage installation, and groundworks — reading drawings, setting out levels and layouts, and ensuring all works match the design and meet specifications. This is a hands‑on, site‑based role — no office desk!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and design details
- Set out concrete pours, zones, drainage runs, manholes and headwalls accurately
- Use levels, total station and laser equipment to mark lines, levels and grid references
- Check levels, gradients and alignment for drainage and concrete works
- Monitor concrete pours — verify dimensions, positions and compliance
- Coordinate with groundworks, steel-fixing and shuttering teams
- Record checks, submit reports and flag design/site issues early
- Keep works on sequence and minimise disruption to other trades
MUST-HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience setting out concrete and drainage on construction sites
- Confident reading 2D drawings, sections and site layout plans
- Competent with laser levels, dumpy levels and total station
- Understands concrete works, drainage gradients, manholes and headwalls
- Can identify discrepancies between drawings and site — flag issues and suggest solutions
- CSCS Card — Black or White preferred
- SSSTS / SMSTS or equivalent site safety qualification preferred
- Clear spoken English — confident communicating with team and management
- Reliable, self-motivated, works well under pressure

- Experience on housing, commercial or modular build sites
- Steel-fixing or shuttering knowledge
- Knowledge of UK specifications and NHBC standards
- Own transport and full driving licence
