As a Sustainability Consultant, you will act as a key advisor on sustainability initiatives, bridging the gap between strategic leadership and operational implementation. You will lead sustainability assessments, drive innovation in sustainable design, and support clients and project teams in achieving environmental certifications (e.g., BREEAM, Ska, LEED). Your expertise will help shape sustainable workplace designs while ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices. You will work on a variety of high-impact commercial workplace projects, including corporate office fit-outs, headquarters refurbishments, and large-scale interior design schemes for clients in sectors such as finance, technology, media, legal, and professional services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership & Advisory: Serve as the lead sustainability consultant on projects, guiding clients and design teams on sustainable strategies, carbon reduction, and circular economy principles. Conduct environmental assessments (BREEAM, Ska, WELL, etc.) and develop tailored sustainability plans for commercial workplace design and retrofit projects. Advise on low-carbon materials, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and ethical procurement, ensuring alignment with client sustainability goals. Support project teams in achieving net-zero carbon targets, including lifecycle assessments (LCA) and embodied carbon calculations. Prepare sustainability statements, benchmarks, and reports for clients and stakeholders.
- Technical & Strategic Support: Develop and implement sustainability frameworks to measure and reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in line with GHG Protocol. Research and recommend innovative sustainable technologies, materials, and construction methods. Ensure compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) standards and emerging sustainability regulations. Collaborate with the Head of Sustainability to refine company-wide sustainability policies and reporting.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Training: Deliver sustainability training to internal teams, contractors, and supply chain partners. Engage with clients to align sustainability objectives with design and operational outcomes. Support business development by contributing to bids, proposals, and marketing materials on sustainability expertise.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years’ experience in sustainability consulting, preferably within construction, architecture, or workplace design.
- Expertise in BREEAM, Ska, LEED, or WELL certifications (accreditation preferred).
- Strong knowledge of carbon accounting (GHG Protocol), circular economy principles, and ESG reporting.
- Experience in embodied carbon assessments, LCA, and net-zero strategies.
- Excellent analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills for client and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to lead multiple projects, mentor junior staff, and work collaboratively across teams.
- Membership in IEMA, CIWEM, or similar professional bodies.
- Experience with sustainability software (e.g., OneClick LCA, DesignBuilder).
- Passion for driving industry change through thought leadership (e.g., articles, speaking engagements).
