Our client is a London-based, clean-tech start-up, developing novel hydrogen technology for decarbonisation and increased industrial efficiency. As part of their expansion plans, they are looking to hire an experienced Electrochemist who’s passionate about net-zero missions, excited by innovation, and proactive in its pursuit.
Accountabilities:
- Be responsible for process characterization, optimization, and laboratory-scale testing with a focus on process scaling-up, including electrolyte, electrode, and reactor optimization.
- Be responsible for the design of experiments, pioneering new test protocols, and standardizing operating procedures.
- Characterize a wide range of metal electrodes for hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions.
- Oversee all electrochemical processes in the laboratory (e.g., electrodeposition of catalysts on electrodes, RDE-testing, etc.) to guarantee relevance to and compatibility with the electrolysis process.
- Assist with health and safety tasks and HAZOP actions related to process scaling up.
- Manage commercial and academic scientific partnerships.
- Develop future road-mapping and supplier classification.
About You:
You will be innovative, adaptive, able to execute, be a team player, and have the potential to manage others.
You will need:
- A PhD in Electrochemical Engineering with a focus on process optimization and scaling up.
- 5 years of experience in electrochemical process optimization, scaling up, and electrochemical R&D environments, ideally within the energy, aerospace, or oil & gas sectors.
- Experience with simulation modelling of electrochemical processes using COMSOL Multiphysics.
- To be excellent at handling high volumes of data, distilling technical data, deriving targeted conclusions, and providing direction towards process optimization and scaling up.
- To be comfortable with electrochemical measurement techniques, including voltammetry and impedance measurements for materials characterization.
- Strong material science background, ideally specialized in metal alloys and multi-metal oxides.
