Senior Downstream Process Development Scientist

Title: Scientist/Senior Scientist – Downstream Process Development Location: North East Employment Type: Permanent We are seeking an experienced Downstream Process Development Scientist to join an innovative organization focused on advancing UK leadership in biotech, Agri-tech, pharma, and biopharma sectors. The role involves delivering technical projects across multidisciplinary teams, including fermentation, microbiology, quality, operations, and engineering. You will develop expertise in various DSP technologies, working on projects from laboratory scale-down to demonstration scale (10,000L), supporting clients towards commercialization. Responsibilities: Build and maintain a network of internal stakeholders and represent the team professionally in networks and groups. Present and report experimental data and conclusions for peer review and client submissions. Plan and execute experimental/pilot scale runs, analyze results, and report findings within set standards and timelines. Maintain detailed records of technical data, decisions, methodologies, and software use. Coordinate weekly work plans with managers and stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery. Ensure equipment maintenance and calibration for safety and efficiency. Requirements: Technical expertise in downstream processing and problem-solving skills. Experience with biobased feedstock purification techniques (centrifugation, filtration, chromatography) and protein analysis (HPLC, SDS-PAGE, ELISA). Knowledge in Biochemistry, Biological Separation/Purification, Biochemical Engineering, and analytical techniques. Understanding of biochemistry related to proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and platform biochemicals. Experience with downstream processing at laboratory scale. Interested?
