Job Title: Principal Engineer – Mechanical Calibration

Location: Barrow-In-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Perform and supervise high level calibration / repair of Mechanical test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) including resource management and calibration workload signoff
  • Write, review and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets
  • Take part in UKAS (ISO 17025) audits and quickly achieve UKAS signatory status
  • Deliver specific, target driven on the job training / experiential learning to apprentices / lesser experienced team members
  • Professional communication with technical stakeholders including consultation on new measurement technologies

Your skills and experiences:

  • Extensive experience in a precision Mechanical metrology laboratory environment
  • Understanding of quality systems & standards (ISO 17025 / ISO 9001)
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent)
  • Existing UKAS signatory status for Mechanical Calibrations (Pressure, Mass, Torque, Force)
  • Experience in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level
  • Experience in use of automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview)

The (ICS Mechanical) team:

The calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment through to state-of-the-art digital systems. ICS Mechanical focuses the calibration of TMDE capable of making pressure, mass, torque, and force measurements. ICS Mechanical supports calibrations in a dedicated laboratory as well on site around the Barrow Submarines Site. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
