We have an immediate contract requirement for a Metering Specialist to work for our market leading renewable energy client. This is expected to last at least 12 months and will be based up to 50% of the working week at our client’s central London head office.
As a Metering Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end metering lifecycle, including installation, maintenance, performance monitoring, and compliance with industry regulations. You will work closely with internal teams, third-party suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure metering systems operate efficiently and provide a seamless experience for customers, acting as the subject matter expert for metering within our client’s UK operation.
Key Responsibilities- Act as the national Metering and communications subject matter expert within our client’s UK operation and support regional teams with project construction.
- Maintain metering requirements and standards for construction projects and maintenance operations, ensuring compatibility with internal processes including commercial, operations, asset management, and legal requirements.
- Provide expert knowledge in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AIM).
- Support project teams during initial design stages, advising on hardware, controls, and metering equipment to improve reliability and maintainability, including designing, developing, installing, and managing equipment/software as needed.
- Implement and review metering strategies to meet current and future business needs.
- Manage relationships related to metering contracts.
- Contribute to the development of medium-term maintenance strategies and metering asset management.
- Provide leadership and influence industry standards and policies through consultations and technical guidelines.
- Participate in regional planning for major maintenance operations.
- Establish and manage reporting systems on metering performance.
- Develop and deliver metering training programs for engineering and operational teams.
- Review acceptance tests and commissioning of metering systems and equipment.
- Manage the HPAN register and maintain the central database of metering assets.
- Support commissioning of AMR equipment and act as escalation point for issues.
- Lead warranty management and claims for metering assets.
- Report on operational performance of metering assets nationally.
- Engineering degree or formal Electronics/Controls qualification (Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent).
- 5+ years experience in metering within utilities and operational environments.
- Experience with network infrastructure, architecture, and administration.
- Strong personal impact with customer orientation, entrepreneurial spirit, and business acumen.
- Ability to translate technical requirements into commercial impact and manage risks.
- Good understanding of operational, commercial, and technical requirements.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to influence stakeholders including authorities, developers, and energy partners.
- Strong understanding of risk management, regulatory, and legislative requirements.
- Knowledge of zero carbon solutions and policy trends.
