Job Description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join us on an FTC basis for 9 months, working in our Biggin Hill Head Office on new product development from initial brief to handover of the final product.
The Research & Development group is looking for a dynamic and creative individual who can make a strong contribution to our mechanical engineering team and design activities. In return for a fresh, alternative and innovative approach to our designs, the successful applicant will experience a fast-paced stimulating engineering environment.

Our placement students will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with prototyping, 3D printing (in-house), create high-resolution concept visuals, and generate artwork as required. Training for all tools and applications used at Formula One will be provided.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in the design, development, and production of high-quality, innovative, reliable mechanical solutions with an aesthetic bias (including appropriate documentation).
- Carry out 3D modeling & 2D design/draught work while updating and modifying existing designs/diagrams.
- Complete full cycle project/task work, from conception to design, development, prototyping, testing, diagnosing, manufacture, and commissioning.
- Decompose complex problems and produce simple and effective solutions.
- Complete all mandatory training within specified timelines.
- Operate safely at all times in line with Company health and safety requirements.
- Undertake other duties within your capabilities as assigned by your Department Manager or Team Manager.
Key Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly).
- Hands-on practical skills with a good understanding of aesthetics and ergonomics.
- Ability to carry out hands-on tasks in the workshop under the supervision of mechanical technicians, including the assembly of prototypes and small volume production runs.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate, report, and communicate effectively.
