Legal Counsel Opportunity – UK
Join a dynamic legal team as a Legal Counsel, playing a crucial role in providing legal services, governance, and compliance strategies across a prominent UK business. This position is ideal for a legal professional with a strong background in IT, Data Protection, and commercial law. It’s a great opportunity for those transitioning from private practice to an engaging in-house environment, gaining exposure to a variety of vital legal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal counsel on IT-related issues, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, including GDPR.
- Act as a trusted advisor on data privacy matters, supporting best practices and delivering training to enhance awareness among internal teams.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, ensuring alignment with legal and business objectives while protecting the organisation’s interests.
- Identify and assess legal risks related to IT systems and cybersecurity, providing practical guidance to mitigate exposure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, bridging the gap between legal and technical departments to address challenges from IT projects and compliance initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of robust internal policies in IT governance and contract management.
- Assist in managing disputes related to IT systems and commercial contracts, working with external counsel as needed.
- Stay informed on legislative changes and emerging technologies to provide forward-thinking legal advice and identify opportunities for innovation within legal and compliance functions.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Qualified solicitor with approximately 4-5 years of post-qualification experience, specialising in IT law and Data Protection.
- Proven experience in commercial law and a track record in drafting and negotiating contracts involving IT services.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with exceptional time management and organisational abilities.
- A commitment to fostering a culture of compliance and governance excellence.
