We are currently looking for an Interim Head of Service (Asset Management and Building Safety) to join a Local Council in Yorkshire as soon as possible for a 3-6 month period whilst they recruit for the permanent post. This role falls inside IR35 and they would need someone on site 2-3 days per week.

As Head of Service – Asset Management & Building Safety, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the council's housing stock, ensuring homes are safe, sustainable, and fit for the future. You will lead the strategic planning and delivery of asset management, building safety, and capital investment across our housing stock. You’ll ensure our homes meet Decent Homes Standards, comply with building safety legislation, and align with our Net Zero ambitions. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll work closely with elected members, tenants, contractors, and internal teams to deliver safe, warm, and sustainable homes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategic asset management and building safety functions for council housing
  • Oversee capital investment programmes and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Develop and implement the 30-year Asset Management Strategy
  • Ensure tenant engagement is at the heart of service delivery
  • Manage large-scale budgets, contracts, and procurement
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders and elected members
  • Drive innovation, performance, and continuous improvement
  • Lead a high-performing team across asset strategy, compliance, and capital delivery
What You’ll Bring:
  • Proven leadership in asset management and building safety
  • Strong understanding of housing legislation, compliance, and Decent Homes Standards
  • Experience managing complex capital projects and large budgets
  • Ability to influence at senior levels and lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Passion for delivering safe, sustainable housing and excellent tenant outcomes
  • Must have Local Government/Housing experience.
