Overview
We are seeking a Senior Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist with 10+ years of experience to oversee and enforce HSE standards during the construction phase of a high-profile data centre project in West London. The role will serve as a key on-site safety leader, ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with UK legislation, client requirements, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on-site HSE strategy and implementation throughout all stages of construction
- Conduct and oversee daily safety inspections, audits, and compliance checks
- Review and approve subcontractor risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
- Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training to all personnel
- Champion a proactive safety culture through engagement, leadership, and visible presence on site
- Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, performing root cause analysis and follow-up actions
- Monitor and enforce compliance with CDM 2015 regulations and client-specific safety standards
- Liaise with client, contractors, and project management to ensure integrated safety planning
- Ensure environmental controls (dust, noise, waste, spill response) are in place and maintained
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to regular HSE performance reporting
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 10 years of HSE experience within construction, ideally involving data centres or critical infrastructure
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (required); NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Chartered or working toward Chartered status with IOSH (CMIOSH or GradIOSH)
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, CDM 2015, and construction site best practices
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency with HSE reporting tools and digital platforms (e.g. HammerTech, FieldView, Zutec)
Working Conditions
- Site-based role in West London during active construction phases
- Standard workweek Monday to Friday, with flexibility to support weekend work when required
- PPE provided; high-visibility role with regular field engagement expected
