Gas Operative (Support Engineer)

The Operative will assist the Team Leader in activities related to locating and repairing public-reported gas escapes. They will help make safe and/or repair gas service pipes or mains, re-assess previously visited escapes, lay mains and/or services in diameter, and carry out mains/service isolations as a Support Operative.

Key Responsibilities

1. Receive instructions via data and verbal requests, plan and organize resources, and make appropriate arrangements to ensure efficient work execution.
2. Assist in laying, connecting, disconnecting, commissioning, decommissioning, and maintaining pipework, associated plant, and equipment, including non-routine work or specialized tasks.
3. Respond to emergencies, participate in standby duties, and assist in testing, surveying, detection, and diagnostic work.
4. Ensure excavation, backfill, reinstatement, and repair work meet standards, including waste removal.
5. Provide training, advice, guidance, and support to teams and individuals involved in the operation and maintenance of the gas transportation system.
6. Offer advice and support for third parties operating near or on the gas system.
7. Assist in gathering information and preparing reports, including technical documentation.
8. Manage the ordering, receipt, inspection, storage, stock control, handling, and issuing of equipment and materials per standards and procedures.

Promote team working and development to achieve business objectives and improve performance.

Experience and Qualifications
