Role Overview
The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one of the three major flows within the Airport (others being aircraft and passenger). You will be responsible for ensuring high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure system. The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team, effective management of third parties, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of skilled Technicians to execute maintenance plans.
- Ensure optimal performance of Baggage assets, including performance improvements to enhance system availability, meeting OBP / CSS metrics.
- Promote a strong EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Communicate effectively and produce reports for stakeholders such as GAL teams, Airlines, and handling agents to facilitate operations.
- Manage costs and contracts to stay within the operational budget.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree in engineering preferred; HND in engineering with significant experience accepted.
- Proven proactive leadership promoting health and safety culture, ensuring processes protect employees and contractors.
- Experience leading and developing baggage systems teams aligned with Gatwick's strategic priorities.
- Ability to ensure system performance meets and exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
- Experience leading failure investigations to identify root causes impacting baggage systems and operations.
