As a Director of Safety Assurance , you will be an inspiring safety leader who will directly lead and manage the safety assurance team. You will provide leadership in developing industry standards and fostering a culture of safety improvement within the business. Your responsibilities include leading the business to identify and mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety standards. You will develop and implement tools to effectively audit, monitor, and review safety performance related to building safety, fire safety, and health and safety.
This role reports to the Director of Operational Excellence and will have direct reports of your own.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and manage potential hazards and risks within the business.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to reduce or eliminate hazards.
- Advise the business and establish processes to ensure adherence to relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Monitor and review safety management systems for effectiveness and continuous improvement, implementing necessary enhancements.
- Promote and develop a strong safety culture within the organization, working closely with senior leadership.
- Oversee safety training and education programs for employees.
- Ensure major risks and safety incidents are reported, investigated, and lessons learned are shared to prevent recurrence.
- Implement and oversee an audit program to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Communicate key safety information effectively and share concerns with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to address safety issues.
- Continuously seek areas for safety performance improvement and work with leaders to implement changes.
- Stay updated on the latest safety trends and agendas through horizon scanning.
- Produce quality safety performance data, analysis, and recommendations for the business.
- Establish and maintain governance processes.
- Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and coach the assurance team to develop and execute improvement plans.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in a health & safety leadership role within the residential built environment sector.
- Experience leading H&S in medium to large organizations.
- Ability to develop and implement health and safety strategies collaboratively with leadership teams.
- Proven experience in leading and inspiring safety teams.
- Expertise in providing management information and analysis.
- Ability to build and implement performance management and assurance controls.
- Experience managing high-level audit programs.
- Capability to simplify complex messages and communicate effectively with business leaders.
- Proven agent of change.
