Girlswear Designer – London Design Studio

V&C Associates are partnering with one of the UK’s most successful London design studios, seeking to appoint a Girlswear Designer to join their team of designers working with major global accounts. This key position involves developing and designing capsule collections, requiring strong brand experience. As a Senior Designer, you will oversee the entire design process, from concept to finished product, delivering high-quality, fashionable designs aligned with market trends.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with the Head of Design to develop collections from conception through production.
  2. Conducting trend research, attending trade shows, and participating in shopping and development trips for inspiration.
  3. Sourcing fabrics, trimmings, and shapes; selecting colour palettes, key shapes, fabrics, and looks for campaigns.
  4. Ensuring sample development, designing specifications, and supervising modifications for production.
  5. Liaising with suppliers, buyers, and merchandisers for sample validation, purchasing, and production.
  6. Creating prints and graphics, including working with licenses.
  7. Maintaining awareness of current fashion trends to inform design direction and product relevance.
  8. Communicating daily with suppliers and production teams, especially in the Far East, to ensure alignment on designs and timelines.
  9. Working closely with Account Managers and buyers to understand customer needs and develop strong relationships.
  10. Translating creative ideas into commercial designs suitable for the mass market, aligning artistic elements with business goals.
  11. Traveling to the Far East and other locations as needed to foster relationships with factories and suppliers.
  12. Conducting trend research and forecasting.

What you need:

  • 5+ years’ experience in the industry, working for a supplier, brand, or retailer.
  • Knowledge of trends, materials, and construction.
  • Up-to-date with social, fashion, and emerging trends.
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Motivated to develop innovative graphics.
