Job Description: Data Centre Engineer

Are you an experienced data centre engineer with field engineering expertise seeking your next challenge? Our client operates network POP sites globally alongside their own data centre in central London and abroad. This role involves joining a small, friendly team based at their London data centre and office, with on-call duties once every four weeks. Typically, 60% of your time will be spent at their City-based data centre, with the remaining time dedicated to field engineering work within Europe or globally for various projects. The role is Monday to Friday, with working hours from 9:00 to 18:00, excluding on-call periods.

The salary range is £35,000 – £38,000, plus a £6,000 car allowance and a £4,250 on-call allowance, all payable monthly as fixed amounts.

Responsibilities

  • Faulting, installing, and commissioning equipment in a data centre environment up to at least 2nd line support level.
  • Installing and commissioning SDH networks and Ethernet networks.
  • Managing equipment such as Juniper / BTI Transmission network equipment (MX / ACX / BTI7200 / BTI 7060) and Cisco switches/routers.
  • Installing and commissioning CWDM & DWDM networks.
  • Installing and commissioning DC & AC Power systems (Rectifiers, PDU’s, ATS Switch).
  • Providing first-line support for Data Centre M&E Equipment (UPS, AHU, Generators, Switch Gear).
  • Utilizing MS Office, Visio, O365, CAD, and Teams for daily operations.

Additional Details

This role requires a valid visa to work in the UK and travel abroad. Candidates should reside within a 2-hour drive of the City office to support SLAs during on-call duties. Additional Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, faulting, and repairing CSC faults and M&E equipment.
  • Labeling, installation, and basic configuration of equipment.
  • Updating site records and assisting logistics with hardware requests.
  • Conducting hardware stock checks and maintaining accurate site documentation.
  • Providing weekly status reports on deployments and maintenance activities.
