Affinity Fire Engineering is a specialised fire safety consultancy firm. We have an exciting opportunity to join our growing team as a CFD Engineer! Often, uncertainty arises into what might happen in a building during a fire. It would be your role to reduce this uncertainty through CFD modelling and other engineering analysis tools. This might be modelling the movement of smoke through a building, determining the risk of fire spread via radiation, or examining an automated system of fans and vents to keep people safe under fire. The role doesn’t require previous experience with fire or construction. Our team of Fire Engineers, CFD Engineers, and surveyors have a wealth of experience to draw from and we’re committed to CPD and training to ensure that our engineers progress within the industry. We’re looking for people who can approach these problems analytically and develop further expertise in this domain. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop methodologies to analyse buildings, fire, and smoke movement.
  • Undertake the analyses and report on the results.
  • Use these results to advise our clients on how to approach fire and smoke within their buildings.
  • Review the legislation, guidance, and clients’ objectives to identify the best fire safety solutions.
  • Investigate, study, and further develop approaches to these analyses.
  • Support other members of the team.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • An engineering degree which includes an element of fluid dynamics.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working as an engineer, including the use of CFD for the purposes of fire safety/smoke ventilation.
  • Experience in the construction industry or design of buildings with respect to fire.
  • An understanding and pro-active interest in the applications and limitations of engineering tools.
  • All models are wrong, but some are useful.
  • An ability to not just to generate CFD models but to determine the right question.
