A brilliant opportunity for a Junior Backend Software Engineer to join an incredibly exciting start-up in London, which is currently in stealth mode developing innovative technology in the security space. Founded by a team of industry experts with multiple successful exits under their belt, this is a chance to join a company at its earliest stages, contribute to the technical roadmap, and work on greenfield projects that blend backend infrastructure with cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies. You’ll be joining a high-trust, low-ego environment focused on technical excellence and continuous learning.
Location: Central London – hybrid working (4–5 days in-office per week)
Salary: £45,000 – £70,000 + equity in the business
Requirements for Junior Backend Software Engineer:
- Around 2 years of commercial experience (or equivalent) in a software development role, ideally building cloud-driven SAAS products
- Excellent academic background – typically a 2.1 or above in a STEM subject from a leading university, plus strong A Levels (AAB or better or equivalent)
- Strong programming ability in at least one of: Golang, Python, Java, C++, or Rust
- Exposure to or keen interest in cloud infrastructure tools such as Docker, Terraform, AWS CDK, or similar
- Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Bonus: Experience working with software-heavy embedded devices that connect to the cloud – especially where there’s big data handling, AI functionality, and advanced visualisation
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a small, experienced team to define and deliver new product features
- Design and implement backend services, APIs, and integrations
- Optimise code for performance, reliability, and scalability
- Contribute to product design and system architecture
- Take part in code reviews, pair programming, and regular feedback cycles
- Work across a modern backend stack involving AWS, PostgreSQL/DynamoDB/OpenSearch, S3, WebSockets, and infrastructure-as-code
