Bookkeeper
Location: Wooburn Green Salary: £32,000 Permanent Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, 30-minute lunch Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays
We are recruiting for an experienced Bookkeeper to join a well-established local business based in Wooburn Green.
This is a varied, hands-on accounts role supporting two associated businesses and working closely with the Directors and wider administration teams.
The role would suit someone with solid all-round accounts experience who is confident managing day-to-day bookkeeping duties as well as month-end, VAT and payroll.
Key Responsibilities of the Bookkeeper
- Managing purchase ledger, including checking and coding invoices
- Producing creditor and control listings
- Maintaining accurate invoice records and filing
- Managing sales ledger and allocating incoming payments
- Credit control and chasing outstanding payments
- Raising credit notes and ad hoc invoices
- Completing bank and month-end reconciliations
- Preparing weekly, monthly and annual reports
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Posting journals
- Processing weekly and monthly payroll
- Supporting month-end and year-end procedures
- Assisting with annual balance sheet and profit & loss reporting
- Reviewing existing processes and implementing improvements where required
- Supporting with general HR administration
- Liaising with Directors and administration teams across both businesses
Key Requirements of the Bookkeeper
- Previous bookkeeping or all-round accounts experience
- Ideally AAT Level 3 qualified or equivalent
- Good working knowledge of purchase ledger, sales ledger and reconciliations
- Experience with VAT returns and payroll
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the accounts function
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confident communicating with colleagues and Directors
- Able to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively
