JR Personnel are an employment agency acting on behalf of a client who is seeking a Health & Safety Manager with experience of working in a busy stand-alone role. The ideal candidate will have experience of risk assessment, writing safe systems and an extensive list of processes and tasks undertaken by the operational team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful family-run business; with their head office based in Leicestershire and refurbishments taking place across the UK. Our client pride themselves on their ability to deliver quick turnover refurbishment of retail units; working alongside the rest of the team you will be fully responsible for managing construction projects on site from start to finish so being able to work to deadlines and keeping within budget is essential.

Role profile:

  • Develop and update new Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Assist the operational team with writing safe systems of work
  • Conduct risk assessments and understand how risks could be reduced
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and consider all relevant hazards
  • Maintain working practices that are safe and comply with legislation
  • Preparation of H&S strategies and internal policy
  • Prepare and monitor departmental budgets
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and ensure all staff are aware of Health and Safety updates
  • Hold Health and Safety meetings
  • Enlighten all internal staff about Health and Safety to highlight it to all teams
  • Investigate and report all accidents across all sites
  • Advise on a range of specialist areas - fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise and safeguarding machinery
  • Ensure all documentation relating to Risk Assessments are reviewed and updated
  • Review all PPE equipment
  • Ensure all machinery and tools are regularly reviewed and monitored
  • Support training across the warehouse and ensure inductions are completed
  • Report on accident statistics
  • Continually improve all policies, procedures and systems using many IT packages

Person profile:

  • Previous experience working within Health and Safety – minimum of 3 years
  • Be used to working on own and bringing new initiatives into the workplace
  • Experience of working with IT packages and H&S systems
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
