As a Vice President within the Global Rates SSA Trading team, you will focus on market making across Sovereign, Supranational, and Agency bonds, managing risk across a portfolio of products while delivering competitive pricing and liquidity to our global institutional client franchise. You will collaborate closely with EMEA and global sales, research, and syndicate teams to generate ideas, support client-driven flow, and contribute to the continued growth and development of our SSA franchise. Your role will be pivotal in reinforcing J.P. Morgan's position as a leading liquidity provider and trusted partner to SSA issuers and investors worldwide.

Job responsibilities

  • Make markets in Sovereign, Supranational, and Agency bonds, ensuring competitive pricing and liquidity across a broad range of maturities and products.
  • Manage and monitor risk across the SSA trading book, maintaining disciplined risk management in varying and volatile market conditions.
  • Develop and execute trading strategies that identify and capitalize on market opportunities across the SSA universe.
  • Provide market colour, axes, and actionable trading ideas to EMEA and global sales teams and institutional clients.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, research, syndicate, and other trading desks to support client relationships and grow the overall SSA franchise.
  • Engage directly with institutional clients, including central banks, asset managers, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds, to deliver execution and risk management solutions.
  • Partner with syndicate teams to support primary market issuance and new issue distribution across the SSA space.
  • Monitor macroeconomic developments, central bank policy, and market dynamics to inform trading strategy and client dialogue.
  • Contribute to the mentoring and development of junior members of the trading desk.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Proven experience in rates trading, with a focus on SSA, Government bonds, or related fixed income products.
  • In-depth knowledge of the SSA market, including key issuers, investor dynamics, market structure, and relevant macroeconomic drivers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and monitor risk across a trading book in fast-paced and competitive market environments.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to assess complex market situations and make sound trading decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with institutional clients, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive under competitive pressure while maintaining a consistent and client-focused approach to market making.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a global, fast-paced trading team across multiple time zones.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Proven experience trading SSA bonds or Government securities at a leading financial institution.
  • Established relationships with key institutional investors active in the SSA space, including central banks and sovereign wealth funds.
  • Experience supporting primary market issuance and working closely with syndicate teams on new issue transactions.
  • Familiarity with related rates derivatives and hedging instruments relevant to SSA trading strategies.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
