Our EMEA Gas, Power and Emissions desk operates within a fast‑paced and analytically focused market environment to provide innovative hedging solutions and access to market for clients. The desk continues to expand its capabilities and we are seeking a Gas and Power Trader. The role focuses on facilitating transactions within EMEA gas and power markets for a broad range of clients in order to meet their risk management or commodity financing objectives. You will work closely with our partners in sales and banking to drive the growth of the gas and power franchise within EMEA.

As a Vice President or Executive Director in the Global Commodities - Gas and Power Trader role within our EMEA Gas, Power and Emissions desk, you will be responsible for pricing and managing significant risks associated with both vanilla and structured energy transactions. Your role will involve analyzing and responding to the latest trends in the global energy transition, with the aim of generating commercial ideas and risk‑management strategies. Working in our fast‑paced and challenging environment, your ability to think on your feet and respond swiftly under pressure will be crucial.

Job Responsibilities

  • Price and manage physical and derivative risks in both liquid and illiquid benchmarks across the EMEA gas and power space.
  • Structure and execute complex and bespoke transactions within EMEA gas and power space.
  • Play a key role in setting up access to new markets in order to allow the desk to harvest future commercial opportunities within the structured trading space.
  • Drive growth of the bank's customer franchise via design and delivery of risk management and asset optimization solutions for both an existing and future client base.
  • Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in terms of steering the growth of in‑house proprietary pricing models and fundamentals analysis and, with appropriate guidance and support, help build out further analytical infrastructure as per business requirements.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • You bring significant demonstrable experience trading European power and gas benchmarks both in a physical and derivatives context.
  • You demonstrate a strong understanding of the dynamics of gas and power options including their application within the structured trading of time, location and cross‑asset basis.
  • You demonstrate competency in understanding the logistical‑delivery aspects of short‑term gas and power trading.
  • You have a solid understanding of power and gas fundamentals modelling and analysis.
  • You have a proven track record of translating fundamental analysis and quantitative modelling of derivatives space into trading opportunities and asset optimization strategies.
  • You are full of initiative and resourcefulness with a strong desire to problem‑solve in a commercial context.
  • You are a strong team player that partners well with colleagues and can lead a diverse group of stakeholders through the various stages of an energy risk‑management transaction life cycle.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Experience trading other commodity assets such as emissions and oil would be beneficial.

This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
