As a Software Engineer III at JPMorganChase within the Markets Technology, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market‑leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives. The Risk Central group is hiring a data engineer to help us build our next‑generation business analytics platform.

This is a great opportunity to work at the intersection of critical front‑office, product‑control facing data analytics and big‑data technologies. The successful candidate will be part of a high‑energy team and have the opportunity to participate in building out the platform.

Job Responsibilities
  • Executes software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
  • Creates secure and high‑quality production code and maintains algorithms that run synchronously with appropriate systems.
  • Proactively identifies hidden problems and patterns in data and uses these insights to drive improvements to coding hygiene and system architecture.
  • Contributes to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging technologies.
  • Answers to the team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect.
  • Ingests data from multiple firm sources into a centralized big data warehouse; investigates and resolves data‑related issues, providing support as needed.
  • Automates data extraction processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Designs and optimizes database schemas for newly landed data on the platform.
  • Collaborates with information modeling teams to develop firm‑wide logical data models.
  • Acts as the primary subject‑matter expert (SME) for data within the analytics platform.
  • Establishes and enforces data quality rules and controls to ensure data integrity.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
  • Formal training in Computer Science or related field and applied experience.
  • Hands‑on practical experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Proficient in coding in Java/Scala/Python and Apache Spark & SQL.
  • Experience with AWS services like Lambda, EMR, Glue, DynamoDB, SQS, Redshift; also infrastructure management tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting.
  • Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code in a large corporate environment with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages.
  • Experience in data structures, algorithms with good understanding of big data.
  • Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
  • Good understanding of data modelling challenges with big data.
  • Good understanding of Financial data especially in front‑office investment banking is a major plus.
  • Knowledge of Databricks is an added advantage.
