As a Product Control Associate in the Global Commodities Group, you will lead the EMEA Energy Product Control team, supporting trading activities in UK and European Gas, EUAs, Global Coal, Brent, and WTI products.
You will play a pivotal role in overseeing financial controls and supporting business growth, working closely with colleagues across multiple regions.
Your expertise in derivative products and operational risk will be essential as you manage complex transactions and ensure robust processes throughout the product lifecycle.
In this role, you will foster strong relationships across Finance, Market Risk, Technology, and Operations, helping to drive the business forward while developing your own skills in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
- Job Responsibilities
- Supervise daily P&L and review breaks between risk management system and P&L aggregator; explain differences to trader estimates, provide Greek-based market commentary, and obtain trader sign‑off.
- Review month‑end controls such as balance sheet substantiation, adjustment review and substantiation, and reconciliation of P&L reported through books and records.
- Manage external reporting including Fair Value Measurement (FVM) and Hedge Accounting.
- Supervise Market Risk Reporting process for EMEA Energy.
- Work closely with the external reporting team for regulatory reporting requirements.
- Act as point person for the team and resolve any escalated issues.
- Review P&L explains, Clean and Dirty buckets, and understand and explain P&L residuals.
- Drive continuous improvement to the system infrastructure and control environment.
- Ensure the team has adequate training and product knowledge.
- Coordinate with key business partners across Finance and other areas on projects and issue resolution.
- Support expansion into physical EMEA Power & Gas.
- Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- Strong experience in Product Control, Financial Control, or Accounting within a trading business, including commodities or FX/rates options exposure.
- Proven proficiency with daily P&L production, risk‑based explains, and month‑end close processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong Finance and Accounting knowledge including Fair Value reporting, inventory valuation, and accrual accounting.
- Ability to communicate effectively across the organization, both orally and in writing, and excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Good understanding of derivative products and inventory valuation.
- Ability to manipulate large volumes of data efficiently.
- Flexible, proactive approach and ability to adapt to business change.
- Proactive in identifying control gaps, defining resolutions, and driving closure.
- Team‑oriented and motivated self‑starter with a positive “can do” attitude.
- Influencing skills to manage relationships with diverse groups internally and externally.
