As a Director of Software Engineering in Corporate Technology, you will lead feature teams in Glasgow, ensuring their work aligns with our vision and goals. You will oversee project delivery, coordinate tasks across teams, and uphold the highest engineering standards. Your role involves mentoring engineers, collaborating with stakeholders, and making strategic decisions that shape our technology landscape. You will help build a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead feature teams in Glasgow, ensuring alignment with our vision and goals
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software products using diverse technologies
- Ensure software quality, reliability, security, and performance through best practices
- Set direction and governance for agentic AI-enabled engineering and SDLC/TLM automation within a technical area to drive measurable improvements in speed, quality, and operational outcomes
- Apply knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain to improve the value realized by automation and support capacity unlock initiatives at scale
- Document issues and resolve bugs efficiently
- Collaborate with Engineering Leads, Product Owners, Solutions Architects, and stakeholders to deliver user-focused solutions
- Mentor, coach, and provide feedback to engineers for skill and performance growth
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and methodologies
- Create and maintain technical documentation and reports
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
- Fluency in cloud-native architecture and design across systems
- Strategic thinking and passion for business strategy and processes
- Ability to make sound architecture decisions based on enterprise principles and operational characteristics
- Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
- Functional and object-oriented programming skills with expertise in Scala, Java, and Python, and open-source frameworks such as Apache Spark
- Familiarity with software engineering and project management tools such as Git, Jira, and Agile
- Experience leading adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering practices across teams
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use and control expectations in engineering workflows
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Databricks
- Experience with data analysis and machine learning tools and frameworks
- Certifications in software engineering, project management, or related fields
- Experience building on emerging cloud serverless managed services
- Experience implementing security solutions for data storage and processing in the cloud
