As a Senior Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial and Investment Bank Global Equity Derivatives Sales Technology team, you will lead a technical area and promote impact across teams, technologies, and projects within various departments. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to oversee multiple complex projects and initiatives, acting as the primary decision maker for your teams and fostering innovation and solution delivery.

In your role as the Senior Architect and Engineering leader for EVO, our strategic pre-trade Derivatives Sales platform, you will help modernise the core platform supporting all pre-trade activities for the Flow, Delta One, European Exchange Traded Products, Global Warrants, and Structured Derivatives businesses. The EVO suite handles high and low-touch pricing and quoting, trade capture, post-trade lifecycle event management, and feeds downstream systems including accounting and legal documentation. It encompasses a range of products from high-volume listed derivatives to complex over-the-counter securitized structured derivatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a globally distributed agile team that builds, enhances, delivers, and supports the core platform that underpins all of EVO.
  • Deliver high-quality solutions in an investment bank or other fast-paced industry where first-class solutions with five 9's uptime are the norm.
  • Work with key stakeholders in Sales, Trading, QR, Operations, and others to ensure the EVO platform meets business requirements.
  • Collaborate with other EDG Sales Technology Team leads to ensure the EVO platform meets their needs.
  • Lead and directly contribute towards the ongoing efforts to re-engineer and re-architect the EVO platform to make it truly highly available, stable, efficient, and scalable.
  • Develop junior team members from the perspective of career progression and technical ability.
  • Lead the effort and contribute towards the identification and implementation of opportunities to eliminate or automate the remediation of recurring issues, with the aim of improving overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
  • Guide evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.
  • Modernise the team to utilize AI workflows.
  • Lead and implement creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with the ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.

Requirements

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and expert applied experience.
  • Advanced experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise.
  • Leadership experience within the Equity / Structured Derivatives pre-trade space.
  • Expert proficiency with the Java programming language.
  • The platform uses a range of technologies including Java, C#/WPF, Python, React, JavaScript, and Cassandra on Windows & Linux platforms.
  • Excellent analytical skills (problem solving).
  • Disciplined approach to code management, testing and deployment practices.
  • Advanced understanding of Agile development methodologies, CI/CD, application resiliency, and application security.
  • Commercial experience developing with and using NoSQL database systems (Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.).
  • Experience building and maintaining a microservices architecture.
  • Experience in leading an agile delivery team leveraging scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives and reporting progress to senior stakeholders.
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering enterprise-level system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Proven experience in successfully integrating new technology into large-scale applications with measurable improvements in performance, scalability, and user experience while minimizing disruption to existing operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a front office environment within financial services.
  • Proficient in utilising AI agents and agentic workflows.
  • Expert knowledge of object-based databases.
  • Knowledge of C#/WPF, Python, TypeScript, and React.
