Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, such as CKAD, Google Associate Cloud Engineer Certification, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability in complex environments.
- Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Go, Java, or Kotlin.
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies, CI/CD, application resiliency, and security, with experience setting standards and driving adoption across teams.
- Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and processes within a technical domain such as cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or mobile.
- Practical cloud-native experience deploying Kubernetes applications on a cloud service provider such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure at meaningful scale.
- Demonstrated experience leading the effective use of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations.
- Preferred: expertise in the Kubernetes operator pattern.
- Preferred: expertise deploying infrastructure as code using Crossplane, Terraform, or equivalent.
- Preferred: experience with Git Ops workflows.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for platform engineering across squads, aligning architecture, delivery, and operational excellence to business outcomes and risk controls.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others while establishing engineering standards and best practices.
- Design and develop composable infrastructure systems and capabilities, with a focus on scalable platform services.
- Design, build, and operate Kubernetes-based platform services; automate developer self-service and CI/CD; improve reliability and operational readiness; and strengthen platform security and controls through Ia C, policy-as-code, and hardening standards.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
- Provide operational support and leadership for production systems in a you-build-it-you-run-it culture, including incident response, post-incident learning, and continuous reliability improvements.
- Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability within existing systems and information architecture.
- Lead and grow communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness, adoption, and use of new and leading-edge technologies.
- Coach and mentor engineers, developing technical leadership capability and supporting high performance across teams.
- Contribute to our culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
- Drive adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices across teams to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes, while establishing measurable validation standards and promoting reuse of proven patterns and automation within the SDLC/TLM toolchain.
