Overview
In this role you will lead and deliver a real-time risk and position platform that operates in the electronic trading execution path. You’ll drive architecture, performance, and resilience for latency-sensitive systems, collaborating with traders, quants, risk and engineering teams across execution, market data, and booking. You will set engineering standards, mentor engineers, and help grow a high-performing team focused on reliability and production readiness. This is a hands-on leadership role that connects technical direction with business outcomes in fast-moving markets.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of the real-time position and risk platform, focusing on architecture, patterns, performance, and resilience
- Deliver real-time position keeping across trade lifecycle events (amendments, cancels, allocations, booking states)
- Build and enhance real-time risk capabilities (risk factor ingestion, curve moves, sensitivities, scenario/ P&L explain)
- Implement straight-through processing and controls (reconciliation, data quality checks, audit trail, observability)
- Define robust data contracts and safe change management with execution and booking teams
- Enforce non-functional requirements (latency budgets, throughput, determinism, fault tolerance, recovery)
- Communicate tradeoffs to stakeholders in business terms as a technical expert
- Raise engineering standards across coding, testing, CI/CD, release discipline, production readiness
- Drive design reviews and execution discipline for scalable, maintainable solutions
- Mentor engineers and support hiring, onboarding, and team development
Key requirements
- Strong Core Java development with OO design and API design
- Experience building low-latency, event-driven, real-time systems with messaging, ordering, idempotency, backpressure
- Deep knowledge of multi-threading and performance tuning/memory management
- Understanding of distributed systems, including consistency, retries, failure modes, replay, resilience
- Experience operating production systems on Unix/Linux with logging, metrics, tracing
- Ability to define and implement system architecture with clear data contracts
- Strong SDLC discipline (unit/integration/regression/performance testing)
- Experience handling high-volume streaming inputs with correctness guarantees
- Proven ability to lead through influence (design reviews, prioritization, mentoring)
- Calm, structured production environment approach including incident management and root-cause remediation
- leadership by influence
- stakeholder alignment
- mentoring and team development
- Core Java
- low-latency event-driven systems
- multithreading and performance tuning
