Real Estate Finance (REF) is a commercial real estate (CRE) lending group within the firm’s Securitized Products Groups (SPG), a component of the Investment Bank. REF’s business is divided into two principal product groups: Direct Lending of secured (i.e. mortgage) loans to hold on balance sheet and/or exit via syndication or securitization and Indirect Lending via Loan-on-Loan or Repo Lines where the underlying loan asset is itself secured by direct real estate. We also act in an arranger capacity bringing borrowers and lenders together. Further, we act on acquisition or lending against performing, sub-performing and non-performing CRE loans as well as interacting with various areas of the bank to deliver real estate solutions to clients. We are active in both the development and construction lending space as well as transitional and cash-flowing assets. We lend against all the main property classes including office, retail, logistics and multi-family residential as well as operating businesses where real estate is a key factor including hotels, data centres and the care sector. Our geographical focus is primarily on the UK & Ireland, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, France and Germany but also includes other countries within EMEA and APAC. Our clients include financial sponsors, private equity, institutional investors, financial institutions, operating businesses, property companies and developers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Screening and researching investment and development loan opportunities throughout EMEA to assess viability;
  • Provide and analyze market research to support recommendations;
  • Undertake analysis of property risks and comparable evidence to form a view on property underwriting including value, cash flow, stabilization;
  • Leverage personal network of contacts to research markets and collect data and market intelligence;
  • Analysis of large portfolios to identify key metrics and areas of risk;
  • Preparation of deal proposals for internal committees;
  • Creating and analyzing models, sensitizing inputs;
  • Overseeing and reviewing real estate due diligence work streams.

  • Judgement skills and experience to undertake risk analysis of a variety of different investment and development projects

  • RICS with specialism in investment, development or valuation
  • On the job experience across sectors and geographies
  • Knowledge of European real estate and market practices
  • Network of contacts with investors, developers and advisors

This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
