Overview
In this role you will provide specialist legal coverage for derivatives, structured products and cash trading for J.P. Morgan Private Bank across the EMEA region. You collaborate with Structuring and Trading teams to enable trade execution while mitigating risk and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will advise on end-to-end processes, trading documentation, and evolving product offerings, including potential coverage of mutual funds and alternatives. This is a global, collaborative position with exposure to high-profile transactions and crypto-related initiatives, aimed at supporting growth and prudent risk management.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal guidance on sale and distribution of derivatives and structured products to professional and retail clients
- Stay updated on UK/EU regulatory developments affecting structured products and derivatives (EMIR, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II)
- Advise on trading documentation (ISDA Master Agreements, structured product programmes, F&O agreements)
- Serve as point of contact for Private Bank equity and fixed income traders on trading-related matters
- Develop policies and controls for existing and new products; determine when external counsel is needed
- Collaborate with regional colleagues and control functions (Compliance, Risk Management)
- Input strategic legal advice across trade inception, structuring and transaction life cycle
- Advise on crypto-related market initiatives impacting the Private Bank business
Key requirements
- England-qualified lawyer with ≥4 years experience in top law firm or financial institution
- Strong knowledge of UK and EU regulatory regimes governing derivatives and structured products
- Expertise in derivatives and familiarity with structured products
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills; ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects
- Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business solutions
- Strong relationship-building with business and legal teams; proactive and commercially aware
- Good judgement in identifying legal risk and guiding internal and external counsel
