As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Infrastructure Platforms, Data Center Services team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. In this combined role, you take end-to-end ownership of technical delivery while also serving as the Application Owner for one or more applications within the Data Center Services portfolio — accountable for their lifecycle management, risk posture, resiliency, and compliance with firmwide standards. Job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver full stack software solutions across frontend (Angular) and backend (Node.js/TypeScript) services, applying strong problem-solving skills to break down complex technical challenges.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and review peers work to maintain consistency, reliability, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI code review assistants) to improve productivity, code quality, and delivery speed, and champion their effective adoption within the team.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve the overall operational stability of applications and systems.
- Own and maintain the application profile and registration in SOR, ensuring all application metadata, data classifications, and information flows are accurate, current, and compliant with firmwide governance requirements.
- Partner with Risk and Technology Risk and Controls (TRC) teams to assess application risk, implement required controls, and proactively manage compliance breaks and control gaps.
- Manage application lifecycle activities including DR test coordination, tech refresh planning, demand and capacity management, and maintenance.
- Ensure the application meets all SDLC governance, operational hygiene, and compliance requirements including the Technology Risk and Controls Catalog and relevant regulatory standards.
- Maintain and continuously improve application security posture, including cloud security responsibilities such as data protection, application security, encryption, environment segregation, monitoring, and resiliency requirements.
- Partner with Product Manager to align application uplift with future sprint planning.
- Participate in communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and adoption of modern tooling, patterns, and best practices.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience.
- Hands-on practical experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle, including system design, application development, testing, continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines, and operational support.
- Strong proficiency in frontend development with React, including state management and testing with frameworks such as Jest or React Testing Library.
- Advanced knowledge of backend development using Node.js and TypeScript to build RESTful APIs, along with strong experience writing and maintaining comprehensive unit, functional, and integration tests.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into actionable technical plans.
- Experience working collaboratively in agile teams and participating in Scrum ceremonies; experience facilitating or running ceremonies such as sprint planning and retrospectives.
- Hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools within the work environment (e.g., for coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation) with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate, validate, and refine AI-generated outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
- Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; ability to guide peers on safe and effective usage within team practices.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or similar, along with exposure to cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code practices, and API documentation standards such as OpenAPI/Swagger.
- Demonstrated understanding of application lifecycle management practices, including familiarity with application registration, governance tooling, and compliance requirements within a regulated enterprise technology environment.
- Experience managing application risk, controls compliance, and resiliency requirements within a regulated financial services or enterprise technology environment.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience with additional modern frontend frameworks (e.g., REACT) or Python for backend services and tooling.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma for collaborating on user interface and experience requirements.
- Experience with traditional artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, such as predictive analysis.
- Prior experience serving as an Application Owner or in an equivalent application governance and lifecycle management role.
- Familiarity with Technology Risk and Controls frameworks and experience managing control remediations through established governance workflows, including disaster recovery testing coordination and cloud security responsibility models.
