A leading ground investigation contractor is looking for a Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing team in Essex. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects across the South East and wider UK.
Whether you’re a recent graduate or an experienced engineer, this role offers hands-on fieldwork, strong technical development, and exposure to major infrastructure schemes.
What you’ll be doing:
- Delivering site investigations from start to finish, including:
- Supervising ground investigation works across multiple sites
- Managing:
- Trial pitting
- Cable percussion drilling
- Rotary drilling
- Window sampling
- Soil and rock logging to BS 5930 standards
- Producing clear, accurate factual ground investigation reports
- Working closely with site teams and engineers to deliver projects safely and efficiently

What we’re looking for:
- Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required
- Experience in ground investigation supervision (or strong desire to develop into this)
- Familiarity with site investigation techniques such as drilling, trial pitting, or window sampling
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in ground investigation reporting and logging
- Ground gas and groundwater monitoring experience
- Health & Safety certifications (CSCS, SSSTS, First Aid, etc.)
- Exposure to infrastructure projects (rail, road, utilities, construction)
