We’re partnering with a well-established consultancy seeking an Associate – Flood Risk & Drainage to play a key role within their Flood and Climate Risk team, helping to lead project delivery, support team growth, and shape service development.
The Role
At Associate level, you’ll combine strong technical expertise with project leadership, client management, and team development responsibilities. Your role will include:
- Leading and overseeing the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), Drainage Strategies, and Flood Scoping Reports for planning applications
- Providing technical oversight on conceptual and outline drainage designs, including SuDS and sustainable drainage solutions
- Managing and advising on flood risk appraisals for investors, lenders, and institutional clients, offering clear and commercially focused guidance
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, local authorities, and statutory consultees
- Supporting, mentoring, and reviewing the work of junior and mid-level team members
- Contributing to business development, work-winning, and the growth of emerging service areas such as ESG, climate resilience, and nutrient neutrality
About You
This role suits a confident consultant who enjoys leadership responsibility and wants to progress within a forward-thinking consultancy. You’ll likely bring:
- 6+ years’ experience in flood risk and drainage consultancy
- Strong knowledge of UK planning policy, regulatory frameworks, and approval processes
- Proven experience managing projects, clients, and junior staff
- Commercial awareness and confidence contributing to fee proposals and project delivery
- A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage competing priorities
Technical Experience (Desirable)
- Flood risk and drainage reporting for planning and due diligence
- MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage (or equivalent)
- QGIS or other GIS platforms
- AutoCAD and detailed drainage design experience
- Chartered status (or working towards) with a relevant professional body
