The Role

We are seeking a Journal Development Manager to build and expand our Editorial Operations. This role is central to driving the growth of JoVE’s publishing activities, with a primary focus on increasing the volume of article submissions and expanding the visibility and citations of published articles.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow the number of article submissions, ensuring a strong pipeline of high-quality research content.
  • Drive initiatives to increase the citation impact of published articles, working closely with marketing, and editorial teams.
  • Build and manage scalable editorial workflows, processes, and best practices to support growth.
  • Identify and recruit key stakeholders in the research and academic community (authors, reviewers, editors).
  • Monitor and analyze editorial metrics (submission rates, acceptance rates, turnaround times, citation impact) and implement data-driven improvements.
  • Mentor and guide editorial staff, fostering a performance-driven culture focused on growth and quality.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of editorial leadership experience at reputable publishers is strongly preferred.
  • A proven track record in academic publishing or scholarly communication, with direct experience in growing article submissions and citations.
  • Deep understanding of the publishing landscape, including open access, peer review processes, author acquisition, and citation practices.
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills, with the ability to use data to drive decisions.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to balance editorial quality and organizational growth goals.
