We’re looking to expand our team of writers, to better explain unfolding news events to our audience.

About the Role

Applicants should have a university level degree in politics, economics or a relevant field of study and should be able to demonstrate relevant experience. The successful applicant will be expected to pitch new video topics and write scripts for primarily our EU but potentially also our Global news channels, and as such will need to work efficiently and independently. They will also be required to contribute articles to our quarterly magazine Too Long. Strong news judgement is essential, as is the ability to understand how events in certain countries affect events in different parts of the world.

Ideally, applicants would be comfortable appearing on camera to discuss their videos and other topics on panel-style discussion episodes and podcasts. As a growing company, each member of staff is sometimes expected to take part in activities and tasks that are not usually part of their workload. This can include rudimentary video and audio editing. While no experience is required in this, the applicants should be happy to adopt a flexible workflow.

This is a full time role, with the successful applicant expected to work 40 hours a week. We operate under a hybrid working model, the employee is expected to work in our office in central London at least three days a week. As such, all applicants must be able to prove their right to live and work in the UK.

We are particularly keen to receive a wide range of applications from people with diverse social, national, ethnic, gender and other backgrounds because lived experience and personal understanding of certain topics can be invaluable in the work we do. As a politically neutral organisation, we ask that candidates disclose any affiliations they have with political parties. Affiliation is not, however, a disqualifying factor.

The successful applicant will be offered a salary between £35,000 and £45,000 (depending on experience).

How to Apply

Please answer the questions at the link and submit your CV. Once we have reviewed initial submissions, successful applicants will be asked to write a sample script on a topic of their choice. This will then be followed by at least one round of interviews, at which point a final decision will be made.

Failure to comply with the policy can lead to termination. You can read more about our AI policy within our manifesto.

TLDR; please don’t use AI in this application, and if you feel you need to use AI, you’re likely not suited for this role as AI also isn’t permitted during employment at TLDR.

If you have any additional questions, please email hiring@tldrnews.co.uk. Applications will close no later than April 20th 2026, although we may choose to close early should we receive enough high quality applicants. As such, we’d encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.
