Head of Partnerships & Philanthropy (Maternity Contract)

The NCH is seeking suitable applications from candidates for the role of Head of Partnerships & Philanthropy as it enters an exciting period of change and development, with a multi-million capital redevelopment programme for its Earlsfort Terrace site in the planning stage. The NCH’s annual funding comes from a mix of its own activities, a grant from the state through The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and from fundraised and contributed income. This income derives from sponsorship, philanthropic donations, trusts and foundations, individual and corporate supporters and from fundraising events and activities. The NCH has well-developed programmes for sponsors, corporate members, patrons, donors and Friends. The Head of Partnerships and Philanthropy will work closely with the CEO and the Board of the National Concert Hall to implement a comprehensive Fundraising Strategy (2020-2025) for its annual programmes in line with the company’s overall mission and Strategic Plan (2021-2025).

Key Information about this role:

This is a full-time, fixed term contract for 12 months, while the post holder is on Maternity Leave. This role reports to the CEO and manages 3 direct reports.

Key responsibilities

  1. Leadership
    • Provide leadership across the team and functions in the Partnerships and Philanthropy (P&P) Department, working closely with the CEO, the Senior Management Team and key partners.
    • Oversee P&P’s budget and all major income streams.
    • Contribute to the strategic and operational leadership of the organisation as a member of the Senior Management Team.
    • Lead and inspire NCH’s Partnerships & Philanthropy teams.
    • Develop your staff’s skills and create real and realistic goals.
    • Coach and support the team to maximise their talents and abilities.
  2. Individual giving & philanthropy
    • Working with the Individual Giving Executive, manage and grow all membership schemes, including Friends and Individual Patrons.
    • Instigate and manage a programme of fundraising events from inception through to completion.
    • Ensure excellent management and stewardship of all relationships within the fundraising area.
  3. Corporate support & sponsorship
    • Working with the Corporate Development Executive, develop and implement plans to attract major corporate sponsorship to the NCH in support of its programme and Learning & Participation activities.
    • Develop and implement a sponsorship strategy for the National Symphony Orchestra.
    • Increase corporate engagement and income, through the Corporate Members scheme.
  4. Trusts & Foundations
    • Identify and implement specific strategies to build income and maintain strong relationships with Trusts and Foundations both in Ireland and internationally.
    • Work with the Head of Learning & Participation to identify and develop projects for support from such Trusts and Foundations.
    • Work with the Head of Programme Planning to identify and develop projects for support from such Trusts and Foundations.
  5. Other key tasks:
    • Working closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications, to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and public affairs strategy for fundraising and sponsorship and to ensure good stewardship of sponsors and donors.
    • Ensure fulfilment of sponsorship commitments and coordinate with other departments to guarantee timely delivery of benefits and proper recognition to sponsors and donors and to co-ordinate marketing and PR reports for sponsors and co-ordinate feedback from sponsors internally.
    • Develop and manage Board fundraising capacity.
    • Attend networking and business events outside the NCH where prospects may be identified.
    • Host sponsor/networking events and other business development initiatives.
    • Utilise online marketing to support donor and sponsor acquisition.

The Person
Essential Requirements

  • A third level qualification (Level 7 or above on the National Framework of Qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working at management and/or senior management level.
  • Proven track record in leading, motivating, and upskilling team members.
  • Experience of managing budgets and overseeing business planning.
  • Evidence of proven involvement in the development and implementation of strategies.
  • An excellent communicator, able to distil information and present clearly and with impact, in written and verbal form.
  • Demonstrated passion for fundraising and building relationships with a range of stakeholders both nationally and internationally.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads, to cope with conflicting demands on time.
