Overview

North Yorkshire Council is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to start a career in Outdoor Education! We operate two residential centres – Bewerley Park near Pateley Bridge and East Barnby near Whitby – specialising in personal development for young people through real outdoor education and adventure learning. The classroom includes mountains, moorland, lakes, rivers, woodlands, caves, and Jurassic coastline of North Yorkshire. Since 1940 we have been at the heart of authentic outdoor education in Yorkshire and Northeast England. Our two centres – Bewerley Park in the Yorkshire Dales and East Barnby on the Yorkshire Moors National Park coastline – offer a wide range of residential and day courses for primary and secondary schools, as well as higher education, youth and adult groups.

Responsibilities

  • Engaging with school, youth and occasional adult groups through a diverse programme of outdoor and adventure activities.
  • Preparing, tidying and maintaining site equipment, resources and facilities.
  • Collaborating with the teaching team and supporting other centre functions.
  • Conducting team briefings, preparing equipment checks, site readiness and post-group tidying.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Basic ability in adventure sports such as paddlesports, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, caving or surf sports.
  • Strong character, excellent social skills and the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Positive attitude, teamwork skills and willingness to learn.
  • Experience in customer service or working with children.
  • A full clean driving licence.
  • Basic instructional qualifications (desirable – support for further development).
